Thomas L. Odem, Jr. Says it Best

November 13, 2008

I have no desire to move mountains, construct monuments, or leave behind in my wake material evidence of my existence. But in the final recollection, if the essence of my being has caused a smile to have appeared upon your face or a touch of joy within your heart…then in living—I have made my mark.

Our Last Crop is Being Harvest

November 12, 2008

We raise corn for feed, feed for animals.  Terry has been waiting for the right level of moisture to occur in kernels, and we are THERE! Yeah!

Of course there are bigger farmers out there, and farmers who have newer equipment (Terry says he loves rust), but ours works for us.

To me this harvest is always [...]

Whats for Supper?

November 11, 2008

After working outside, putting the lavender to bed

Raking leaves, and cleaning up the weeds, it’s nice to come in to a large pot of Brown’s Pinto Beans. Chili on a chilly day.  Yummm!

Even the Praying Mantis has covered up for the winter.

November 11, 2008

Along the way I saw….

Big birds eating corn in the corn field, are they cranes? Are they Blue Herons?  They kept moving away from me, I wonder why?

On the Way to the City

November 10, 2008

We travel through a really neat prairie, full of interesting dunes and canyons.  I love the play of shadows across the land.

As a child I was always fascinated by this huge plateau called Wild Horse Mesa.  Even today I love driving by it.  There are NO wild horses!  Besides it doesn’t look like it [...]

I Deleted by Accident My Award

November 7, 2008

I didn’t mean to delete my award!  Shoot!  I was trying to figure out how to fix it; therefore I lost everything I had printed on the post.
Boy am I sorry!

Last Year’s Leaves

November 6, 2008

The storm hit our area yesterday, bringing a strong wind with sleet and rain.  Our trees were still hanging onto thier summer leaves, but today, the leaves are all on the ground.
Although this looks like lots of bugs, it is really leaves being pushed off the trees.

On the Way to Shreeve’s Cow Camp

November 3, 2008

We are very lucky to know one of the first homesteading families from the Escalante Canyon.
Escalante is just about five miles from us, the Shreeves farmed and ranched thousands of acres from the bottom of the canyon into the interior of 25 Mesa. (The Uncompahgre).
On Saturday, Steve and Sharon (Shreeves) Palmer took us on [...]
