A Short Little History Course about Our Farming Area
We live on the flat, just before you drop down into Roubideau Canyon. Roubideau Canyon is three miles from our farm, and eventually connects with Escalante Canyon.
At the end of our canyon, the Roubideau and before it turns into Escalante Canyon, was a railroad switch. Here people brought their produce, animals and other goods to ship to Denver, Colorado or Salt Lake City, Utah.
A little town sprung up along the switch, which is long gone now. Only farm ground and chicken prisons exists.

The large cattle spread started in 1913, is now home to the Colorado Department of Corrections medium security prison. All of this is just 5 miles from our farm.
Yes there has been prison escapees — one time we had convicts in the corn field in front of the house, these same people went across the road and took our neighbors bean truck, while it was parked for lunch. Makes for a great story! Adventure in rural America J

Oh, I would be worried I think. I used to live near the county jail and whenever someone would escape, I’d be very thankful for my large German Shepherd dog. The history of where you live is so interesting and I enjoy hearing all about it.

How interesting! Wow, I don’t think I would like to live near a prison. The spring weather is back again here, I hope you all are having some nice weather too.

Loved hearing the history of your land and the adventures. A bit scary I’m sure at times but great to pass on along the family tree. You don’t have snow on the ground-most of ours is gone but there are still traces plus it is sooo windy today.

I always like stories based on history, quite interesting. Although I wouldn’t like the prison being so close! Since I’ve moved to the country, I sometimes get nervous at night when I’m by myself, just because we are so isolated…. don’t escaped convicts seem to love rural areas??!
