Irrigation Step 7, Continued

Some of our irrigation is set up with either a dirt ditch or cement ditch, which uses siphon tubes or the easy way….gated pipe!! (My personal favorite)
It is easier to use, costs more to set up, harder to fix if the pipes become broken. The easier to use part is why I like it.

Here is an example of what you don’t want to have happen. The water gets caught in a low spot and starts cutting over into another furrow until you have a bog hole. The only way to fix it is re-dig the furrow by hand, er shovel.

Oh, I understand what you mean by liking the easier part. All that digging is hard work!
I’m so enjoying the photos.

Wow-I always forget how much work farmers and ranchers do. Thank you doesn’t say enough. It looks like you’ve had some good weather-ours varies from day to day but I love it still. Love the pic of the chickens. Have a wonderful day.
Hugs.

Got your email. I live on the east side of Idaho. I did live in Buhl for one summer, though. I grew up near Twin Falls. And I put in plenty of time “chasing water” with my dad. No siphon tubes put plenty or corrigations.

I love this series of posts you are doing! So much fun! I used to have the job of setting the gates open when Jeff worked on the farm; not a bad job!
