Ouray to Telluride, Colorado by Way of Imogene Pass

July 31, 2009

Starting in Ouray, Colorado ( I took 239 photos, but you will only see a few of them, around 14)  In the beginning Telluride was called To Hell You Ride, from this pass you can see why.

The way is narrow and steep

With a few four-wheeled drive vehicles, nothing like the Telluride side.

For some reason the [...]

July 29, 2009

Prior to harvesting, the corn is inspected to ensure each ear is developed with full kernels from end to end. After inspection, only the top ear on the corn stalk, known as the primary ear, is harvested by hand.

When harvested, “Olathe Sweet” sweet corn is immediately slush iced in the fields enabling the corn to [...]

Second Cutting of Hay

July 28, 2009

The weather turned off ever so hot, 104*, making it hard to bale the hay with the ‘perfect’ amount of dew, but it got done!
Done and stacked and some has even been sold.  What a relief.
After the days and days of heat, lack of air movement, a cold front has started through. Good!

Where Have All the Ladybugs Gone?

July 24, 2009

According to www.lostladybug.org there are more than 400 ladybug species native to North America, but now are considered rare.

The Lost Ladybug Project is trying to find out just how many native species are left.

Take a look around your farms, yards, and parks and try to photograph any of these familier insects.  Then send the photographs [...]

The mean ol’ biddies!

Awful women! Just awful!

Chickens are Just Like People—Sometimes They are Just Plain Mean

July 17, 2009

Hi! My name is Honey.  I really didn’t have a people name, until my human Mom was badgered by Misty….does that make Misty my human sister?!?!

Anyway, I now live at the house, with the dog. Who would have ever thought THAT would happen. I mean, really the DOG!!!! He usually chases all of us chickens [...]

Four-Wheeling

July 16, 2009

One of our favorite places to go four-wheeling is Ouray, Colorado.  http://www.ouraycolorado.com/Jeep+Road+Conditions

This lovely little mountain town is 1.5 hours from our house.  Not only do we like to soak in the naturally occurring hot springs pool, but we love to travel the old mine roads.

Sunday we took off, hoping to climb Imogene Pass and end [...]
