December 10, 2012

Alas, our above normal December temperatures have fallen to ‘normal’.

Yesterday's-HighThis is the high yesterday.  Which really was much colder as we had a sharp wind with the cold, so the wind chill needed to be factored in.

Even as cold as this was Fuzzy wanted to stay outside, although Boomer didn’t.

CC

Sam didn’t stay in much either, preferring the outdoors, then sitting by the wood stove when he came in, then back out he would go.

Happy Birthday to Me 005

Monkey, made a wild dash out the door, only once,

I-want-inWhen I went out to do something.

This is what I saw when I came back.

Although, I know cold is relative, this is cold to us

When-we-woke-upThe temperature when I got up today.

And it will only get worse as  the days wind down to the solstice on December 21st.

Will that be the end of the world?!?!?

I have know idea.

I do know that after the solstice, the days will start to grow longer again and the temperatures even colder and colder until we hit March.

Which seems like a very long time from now.

Oh, well.  Cold like this is really hard on the bugs, which can be a good thing next summer!

  1. Well as you know, we got a dusting of snow……..but not as cold as you. It was 28 this morning and I thought that was too cold! Stay warm!

It gets dark so early and stays dark so late! I like longer days! Got cold here too. Temp came up some Sunday night but now we have the wind. Sunday morning was close to zero.

  3. Cyndi Pride says:

We’ve had the cold… and some snow, but not nearly enough. Our furnace is working overtime. But, it is December, so I guess I shouldn’t complain!

  4. Leenie says:

Single digits here, too. Canada must have left the door open to their freezer again. I know that “Open the door, Already!” cat pose. Funny how it can look so sunny and blue and be so friken COLD!

  5. jan says:

My dogs don’t want to go out when the temperature dip much below 50. Yes, I have wimpy California dogs.

  6. Red says:

Hey, I see good old Celsius on that thermometer!
We’ve just ended a ten day cold spell. It was minus 27 one night.
Yes, March seems like a long time and it will be colder in Jan.

  7. I’m hoping the cold here has killed a few more bugs and slugs too !! A gardener HAS to hope !

  8. Colin Huggins says:

Quite laughable this “ending of the World with the appearance of Christ” on the 21st December.
Never made the TV news here like in some countries and was only reported in the International news sections of the newspapers. I guess we, Aussies, were going to be left to rot by ourselves – ha ha!
    Now on mattters more “earthly”.
My God – that temperture gauge says it all – Brrrrrrrrrrrr! Then the wind factor!!! Double Brrrrrrrrr!
I am pleased to report that there was plenty of water in our clouds. At 11.00am yesterday the water gates were opened and did it ever come down – bucketed for well over 90 minutes and not
the swirly stuff with winds. Then it eased and continued with a good steady rinsing and also rained
over the bush fires areas. What a relief for the fire crews.
Drizzled most of the night, but today is cloud free, but follow ups are expected.
Is your cat, Sam, hell bent on catching pneumonia??
    Cheers
Colin ( a very happy chappie!)

  9. Kath says:

BRRR. The cold has hit here too. Snow too tho we didnt get much here.

  10. Oh, that we all had Fuzzy’s kind of fur to keep us warm…maybe then it wouldn’t be so bad!
By the way – we’re supposed to get to 65 today, and we’re having torrential rains. I hope this doesn’t mean another winter so mild that the bugs won’t die….

  11. Michele says:

We are suppose to get cold (for us) tonight. It temps will be down to 32 in the city. I will be covering my plants for the next week. Our highs would seem balmy to you but cold for us, in the mid 50s. Stay warm!

  12. mtwaggin says:

Oh I heard that the media decided the 21st won’t be the end of the world. I’ll just be glad to be back on the “adding” side of daily light! We got snow and cold here but your cold is our norm so we aren’t complaining although the naked dogs spent the weekend by the wood stove!
